How to Go to The Peak

Bus Number 15 or 15C

Bus 15 at Central (Star Ferry), Central (Exchange Square), and Admiralty Station bus stops will take you to The Peak in about 40-60 minutes, while bus 15 C will take you to the The Peak Tram station. Almost all of the bus stops are close to MTR stations. If you’re staying in the Wan Chai area, keep on reading as I have provided a list of other bus stops that are part of the bus 15 route.

Central (Star Ferry) Bus Stop

There are 2 bus stops at this terminal:

  1. The first bus stop has Bus 15C, which will take you to The Peak Tram Central Terminus (Garden Road) bus stop. This is a great option if you want to ride The Peak Tram. The bus stop is just outside/in front of the ferry terminal entrance. The bus trip will take around 15-20 minutes.
  2. The second bus stop has bus 15 and bus X15 (temporary), both of which will take you to The Peak. The bus stop is located at Central Pier 6 (east of the ferry terminal) . Bus X15 is a bit more expensive and the trip duration could be twice longer than bus 15, but you may get to see more of Hong Kong Island’s northern part. Please check the latest schedule here as bus X15 may only run on Weekends and public holidays.

Both options are great if you have just gotten off from the ferry. But if you’re not, then Central (Exchange Square) and Admiralty Station bus stops are the easiest to get to.

Central (Exchange Square) Bus Stop

You can easily get here to catch bus 15 by stopping at the following MTR stations:

  1. Hong Kong MTR Station: Take exit B1.
  2. Central MTR Station: Take Exit A, go up the pedestrian bridge to your right, and get across to Exchange square. You can also take Exit J and get to the City Hall bus stop to catch bus 15 (to The Peak) or bus 15C (to The Peak Tram Central Terminus).

Admiralty Bus Stop

You can also catch bus 15 or X15 from Admiralty MTR station by going out from exit C1. Keep in mind that bus X15 may only run on Weekends and public holidays.

The Peak Tram

Taking the Peak Tram is one of the top things that you must do in Hong Kong, which is located at The Peak Tram Central (Lower) Terminus at 33 Garden Road, Central. To go there, you can catch bus 15C from either Central Pier (Star Ferry) or City Hall bus station.

Alternatively, you can go from Exit J of Central MTR and walk 10-15 to Charter Garden. Then, head towards Bank of China Tower and walk past St. John’s Cathedral until you arrive at Garden Road, where you’ll see the Central Terminus.

The Peak Tram departs every 15-20 minutes and will take around 8-10 minutes before arriving at The Peak Tower Station. You can buy the ticket on site, but I suggest that you purchase the ticket in advance to avoid crowds.

Green Minibus (GMB) Number 1

Green Minibus no. 1 will also take you to The Peak. It is located at the back / seaside view of IFC mall. You can go to the mall from Hong Kong MTR Station and take Exit F. The fare is a bit cheaper than taking bus 15, but the route is a bit different than the usual path to The Peak, making it a less popular option.

Hiking

There are several routes to reach The Peak by hiking. The most popular one are from Old Peak Road or Lung Fu Shan morning trail.

Old Peak Road (Mid-levels)

The length of this trail is around 1.1 km and should take 30-40 minutes. You find the path behind Hillsborough Court

Lung Fu Shan Morning Trail

This trail is longer and more windy than Old Peak Road. The length of the trail is around 3 km and should take 50-60 minutes to reach The Peak Tower. To go here, you can ride the MTR to Kennedy Town station. Then, head to Sinopec gas station on Pok Fu Lam Road

By Taxi

Here is an approximation of taxi fare to The Peak. Keep in mind that these are very rough estimations, so it may be cheaper or more expensive depending on your location and other fees such as waiting time, baggage, and harbour crossing to Hong Kong Island (toll fee).

  1. From around Tsim Sha Shui, Mongkok, and Yau Ma Tei area: HK$140 – HK$220
  2. From around Central, Sheung Wan, and Mid-levels area: HK$60 – HK$100
  3. From around Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, and Northpoint area: HK$60 – HK$120

From Tsim Sha Tsui

The best way to get to The Peak from Tsim Sha Tsui is to cross Victoria Harbor by taking the Star Ferry or MTR to Central station at Hong Kong Island.

Notes: Taxis maybe reluctant to take you there as they have to cross the underground tunnels and may get stuck during peak hours. While buses are inconvenient as you’d have to switch buses, so they are not recommended.

By Star Ferry

Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry pier is located between Harbour City shopping mall and Hong Kong Cultural Centre. To reach the pier you can either walk for 10-25 minutes or ride bus no. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, or 8. You can look at the complete and updated bus route list here.

In Tsim Sha Tsui terminal, buy an adult ticket to Central (not Wan Chai) for 4.0 HKD. For a better view, buy the upper deck fare for 5.0 HK .

After arriving at Central pier, you can directly head outside to ride bus 15C that will take you to The Peak Tram Central Terminus, where you can ride the Peak Tram, or you can head east to Central Pier 6 bus stop and ride bus 15 that goes to The Peak. See here for a more detailed guide about going to The Peak by bus.

By MTR

It should take just around 10 minutes to reach Central station from “Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station” (Tsuen Wan Line). Be careful not to go to “East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station” (Tuen Ma Line) as it has a totally different route.

After arriving at Central MTR station, take Exit A and get across to Exchange square to catch bus 15 that will take you to The Peak.

From Wan Chai & Causeway Bay

You can easily get to The Peak by taking the MTR from Wan Chai or Causeway Bay station directly to Central MTR station, where you can ride bus 15 that will take you to The Peak. If you live around Wan Chai MTR station, you can also ride bus 15 by walking to the following bus stops at Queen’s Road East:

  1. Three Pacific Place
  2. Lun Fat Street
  3. Amoy Street
  4. The Zenith
