The Peak is most famous for its spectacular views of Victoria Harbour. To help you make the most of your visit, here are my recommendations of what to do there
Ride The Peak Tram
Going to The Peak by tram is a one-of-a-kind experience that will make your trip unforgettable. The tram will ascend steeply from 33 m to 396 m above sea level for around 6 minutes along a beautiful 1,278m-long track, where you will be rewarded with a view of Hong Kong’s magnificent skyscrapers and nature.
To ride The Peak Tram, you have to go to The Central / Lower Terminus (Read this guide to learn how to get there). They are so popular that both have just been upgraded significantly in August 2022, making the whole experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
View Victoria Harbour from Sky Terrace 428
Sky Terrace 428 is the highest viewing platform in Hong Kong that offers the best view of the city’s magnificent skyscrapers and Victoria Harbour. It is located on top of The Peak Tower, which is a shopping mall that you’ll be taken to if you ride The Peak Tram. The entrance fee for Sky Terrace 428 is 75 HKD (adult) or 38 HKD (child or senior).
Visit Peak Galleria
Peak Galleria is a shopping mall just opposite of The Peak Tower. It has a free observation deck at L3 that also allows you to see Victoria Harbour. The viewing deck is lower and about 40 m (130 ft) further than The Peak Tower, but the view is almost as great. This is a great option if you want to visit The Peak multiple times to capture both Victoria Harbour’s morning and night view.
Other than the observation deck, you can find bathrooms, souvenir shops, a variety of Hong Kong-style cafes, and MONOPOLY DREAMS™ at the mall.
Lions Point View Pavilion
Lions Point View Pavilion is a free area located just east of The Peak Tower, where you can have a closer view of Victoria Harbour than from Peak Galleria. The downside of this viewing area is that it is lower than The Peak Tower and Peak Galleria and there is limited space, so it can get crowded as well.
Hike the Hong Kong Trail
Also called The Peak Circle Walk, walking along this trail will reward you with multiple stunning views of Hong Kong for free. You can see Sheung Wan, Tsim Sha Tsui, as well as Victoria Harbour from this easily accessible and relatively short path.
This trail has two roads: Lugard Road and Harlech Road. To see Victoria Harbour, start from the east of Peak Tower and go right to Lugard Road. Keep walking for 15-20 minutes along the 1.2 km (~0.7 mile) forested-path until you reach an open area to find the spectacular view. Remember to bring your fully-charged camera!
The total length of the trail is around 3.5 km (~2.2 mile) and takes around 40-60 minutes without rest to complete the trail from Lugard Road to Harlech Road. But if your goal is to only see the harbor, then going to Lugard Road is enough. You should spare at least 40-60 minutes in this area.
